Blog post 3: “My Writing Technologies”

The main purpose of the first writing project is to see the connections between “writing” and “technology” as both concepts and practices. Now, while the writing assignment asks you to “invent” a new writing technology and reflect on that process, this prompt asks you about the writing technologies you use all the time.

What are they? What sorts of writing tools do you routinely use for your own writing? How have your writing tools changed over the years? And what sort of writing tools do you avoid using?

The computer is the main technology I would have to say I use. The keyboard is one of the tools that I use to input the words to the computer. I also use pen and paper often too. At school I still get a notebook and pens and use them to take my notes in class. I have yet to switch over to using my laptop for note taking purposes. I guess I’m more traditional in the sense when it comes to taking notes. I like to write them down instead of typing them out. My writing tools have changed somewhat, back in elementary school it was all about the pencil. Then as I progressed into middle school and high school I switched from using the pencil to using the pen. With the exception of math class I still use a pencil in math to this day, for erasing purposes really. When I was in elementary school too, that was when I was introduced to the computer and that changed over the years to. From getting my own computer and now a laptop that I can carry around with me. I would have to say I avoid the pencil for the most part, mainly because I don’t like how it gets smudged and it writes so light.
